They stay low to the ground to swoop down on unsuspecting insect.ĭiet – Similar to the Eastern, the Western bluebird fuels eats mainly insects during warmer months. Their established areas are more prone to host ponderosa pines, conifers, junipers or aspens. Habitat – Western bluebirds also tend to live in open woodlands, often in trees grounded by fires or logging, although they are less frequently seen. Their wingspan is slightly longer than the Eastern variety at 11.4-13.4”. They are sparrow sized with an average weight of about one ounce and a length of 6.3-7.5”. The lower belly on both sexes is grayish-blue. Females are gray buff with an orange wash over their breasts and tinges of blue to the wings and tail. Traits of the Western BluebirdĪppearance – Like their Eastern counterparts, Western bluebirds have bright, deep blue backs and wings. On occasional they will eat suet, peanut pieces, raisins, currants, or grapes. When bugs become scarce in winter, their diet switches to berries such as juniper, and fruit. Offering mealworms in your feeder is an excellent way to attract these beauties as they are not fond of standard bird seed mixes. Perching on fences or low tree branches allows them to swoop down and hover to collect their treat or use a “hawking” technique of catching their prey in the air. They also enjoy perching on fences, telephone poles or medium sized trees.ĭiet – 68% of a bluebird’s diet consists of insects such as crickets, spiders, grasshoppers and caterpillars. They prefer clear cut forests and live along the forest edge. Habitat– Eastern bluebirds live in places with an open canopy such as meadows, pastures, semi-open woodlands or large mowed lawns. Click here to view the beautiful colors while listening to an Eastern bluebird singing. They have white throats with faded orange breasts, continuing onto the sides of the neck. Weighing in at about one ounce and ranging in length from 6.3-8.3” with a wingspan of 9.8-12.6”, they can reach speeds of up to 17mph when in flight.įemale Eastern bluebirds display more muted bluish-gray colors along their backs and heads with tinges of blue on their wings and tail for a subtle yet elegant look. Blue tinges in the wings and tail give the grayer females an elegant look. They have white bellies and a slightly larger bill than the other two species. Traits of the Eastern BluebirdĪppearance – Male Eastern bluebirds boast vibrant, deep blue backs, wings, and heads with orange breasts with an orange throat. This species is more likely to be spotted out of its range than the other two. They may travel as far north as Alaska for breeding and winter in central Mexico. Migrating flocks of 20-200 Mountain bluebirds travel short to medium distances during migration. The third bluebird species can be found throughout the Rockies and other mountains of the west and have been observed at elevations up to 12,500 ft during the breeding season. Keep watch as bluebirds tend to migrate during the day. Those in areas with mountains may fly to warmer elevations down the slope. Some Western bluebirds may travel as far north as British Columbia. Where the eastern range ends, the western picks up extending from the Rockies to the Pacific coast. Eastern Bluebird Range Map How to attract and identify bluebirds.

I am putting in a list at the end so they are technically endnotes. These notes can be put anywhere in the Rmd. I put my footnotes in square brackets because superscript is confusing if I am putting a footnote on some inline math. Note that there is also a Cheatsheet specific to Markdown Here if thats what youre looking for. EDIT: you can use a symbol and then , but that wont give you a link between the place where the footnote occurs and its body text. For more complete info, see John Grubers original spec and the Github-flavored Markdown info page. You could have Markdown to have a popup appear to insert the footnotes text. An R Markdown file is a plain-text file written in Markdown, which is a formatting syntax. Faramir is taken to the Houses of Healing, as are Éowyn and Merry, and Aragorn enters the city to tend to their illness. Pippin manages to find Gandalf, who saves Faramir from his father's madness, but Gandalf cannot prevent Denethor's own suicide. Convinced that all is lost, he orders Faramir's body carried into the mausoleum, where he plans to burn himself and his son alive. Inside the city, Denethor descends into madness as he watches the plight of his city and the deadly illness of Faramir. He used his authority as the True King to call the dead themselves into battle, and they destroyed a second army that had been approaching from the river. The hopes of the city are dashed when a fleet of dark ships appears on the river, but the lead ship unfurls a banner bearing the insignia of the True King: Aragorn has arrived from the Paths of the Dead. The rider who brought Merry to the battle reveals herself as Éowyn, and with Merry's help she slays the Enemy's greatest servant. Then the Witchking (the most powerful Nazgûl) kills Théoden, and their charge is stopped. With the aid of a strange tribesman, the Rohirrim find a forgotten road and arrive just in time to surprise the besieging army at Minas Tirith.Īlthough small in number, the Riders of Rohan sweep across the battlefield. Théoden leaves behind Merry and his niece Éowyn, claiming that neither can help in the battle, but a young rider offers to carry Merry. He takes the evil road with Legolas, Gimli, and the Dúnedain (a group of Rangers) who have joined him from the North, but the Rohirrim are convinced that he has gone to his own death. Aragorn realizes that he must take the Paths of the Dead if he is to reach Minas Tirith in time to lift the siege. The Riders of Rohan muster their forces, preparing to ride to the aid of Minas Tirith, and Merry strikes up a friendship with Théoden. When they make their last dash for the safety of the gates, Gandalf rides out to defend them from the flying Nazgûl, but Faramir falls at the gates. Angry that his son did not bring the Ring to Gondor, Denethor sends the exhausted captain back into the field to lead a rearguard action against the oncoming army. Faramir returns to the city, wearied from fighting, and reports his encounter with Frodo. Denethor does not trust Gandalf, and he knows that the wizard has brought Aragorn to reclaim the throne. They meet with Boromir's father Denethor, the Ruling Steward of Gondor, and in gratitude for Boromir's sacrifice (saving them from the orcs at Parth Galen), Pippin pledges his service to the steward as a Guard of the White Tower. To keep Pippin out of further trouble, Gandalf rides with him to Minas Tirith, the city that Sauron's armies will soon besiege. Full Glossary for The Lord of the Rings. Whichever team gains control of this door will be able to easily switch from A Hall to A Site and cover both areas.Ī Hall has a one-way chute that dumps players down to Mid. It can only be opened with switches found on both sides. There is a door connecting A Hall to A Site that is both impenetrable and indestructible. There is one for Attackers in A Lobby, and another for Defenders near A Bridge. Agents enter by using ascending ropes found in different locations. This area is a cramped hallway that grants easy access to A Site. More of this with your next Valo maps please, Riot! I can only take so many boring-looking Dust 2 clones (I'm looking at you, Bind).īreeze arrives in Valorant on April 27th, alongside a new battle pass and some ominous gun skins in Episode 2 Act 3.Most of Breeze’s dynamic elements can be found in A Hall. I can't tell you how lovely it is to load into an area full of greenery, with a diverse range of buildings and structures, and a lush seaside backdrop to boot. It'd be remiss of me to end this post without mentioning how gorgeous Breeze is too. There are some good spots for Killjoy to hide a sneaky turret on this one. This is A Site, it has two funky pyramids in the middle and you have to jump down into a little puddle of water to plant the spike. All in all, it makes for some really fun and varied play, and I'm looking forward to seeing what different strats will appear after it settles into Valorant's map rotation. But then, there are so many routes, you have to be mindful of where defenders can emerge from. Going back through spawn would take far too long, making the multiple routes in mid essential. If that sort of strategy goes badly, however, attackers are pretty much forced to rotate through mid. From there, the sites were so open it was fairly easy to stop them from defusing, because they'd have to expose themselves to do so while we backed off towards our spawn. Thanks to this, in the games I played, my team found that one of the best strategies was just to push a site hard, forcing the defenders to rotate quickly once we'd planted the spike. Before a round starts, attackers can get incredibly close to both A and B Site. Breeze seems designed to stop attackers from rotating all the way back through their spawn if they want to push the other site. Truly, the biggest gimmick is the map's size, particularly from an attacker's standpoint. Plop.Īs far as other gimmicks go, there are no teleporters or anything huge like that, though a few ropes are dotted around for players to get up onto some of the high ground - Breeze has a nice mixture of high and low areas to explore. Tactically, I suppose it works for a quick escape if you're being mullered in the corridor, but as soon as you drop out the bottom you're basically a sitting duck to anyone watching mid. In the lore of the map it was probably used for smuggling or mining, but in a Valorant match? I will be using it purely for japes. I don't fully understand why this little chute exists, but I love it. The door stays open for a few seconds after you drop, so if you're playing a character with decent movement abilities you could quickly teleport or fly back up. It's a small trap door that plops you down from the corridor into mid. It's in this corridor that my favourite part of the map exists. There's a long corridor, named A Hall next to A Site that directly connects both spawns too, which is a pretty vital place for defenders to cover. The middle of Breeze, as well as both plant sites, are incredibly open, making it more difficult for defenders to dominate one angle with a sniper without being flanked. This new map is a nice change of pace from Icebox and Split, with all their tight corridors and choke points. What I've said so far sounds pretty negative, though I don't totally mean it that way. My new trap door friend is named Mid Chute, he's right inbetween A Hall and Mid Pillar. Watch on YouTube Here's the full map layout for Breeze. Here's some video I recorded during the Breeze preview event for a little taster of what to expect. The plant sites seem really far away from each other, and in between them is a mixture of windy corridors mixed with extremely wide open spaces where it's tough to pre-empt where your enemies might approach from. It's hard to get a good sense of what a new map will really be like when you've only had the chance to play a couple of matches on it, so my first note is a warning: Breeze is a little overwhelming. Breeze also features a trap door that I don't full understand the function of, but that just makes me love it all the more. It's big, it's pretty and I had a chance to try it out early and capture some footage for you to feast your eyes on. Riot Games announced Breeze earlier today: it's a new seaside map coming to the tactical FPS next week. Icebox and its many ziplines, Bind and its teleporters, and now Breeze and its daft trap door. I love a good gimmick in my Valorant maps. Diagnostic studies include mainly chest radiography, which may be supplemented with computed tomography ( CT) of the thorax and pulmonary function tests (spirometry and others). History and physical examination (differential diagnosis of respiratory diseases: Table 1.34-1). This is generally biphasic in nature and heard best in basal and axillary regions. Squawks are most frequently present in patients with hypersensitivity pneumonitis and less often in patients with other interstitial lung diseases, bronchiectasis, or pneumonia.ĥ) Pleural friction rub is caused by the rubbing of the parietal and visceral layers of the pleura due to the deposition of fibrin in the course of an inflammatory or neoplastic process. Stridor may be heard in patients with vocal cord dysfunction, epiglottitis, airway edema, anaphylaxis, laryngotracheitis, extrinsic compression of the trachea, or a foreign body.Ĥ) Squawk, also known as “squeak,” is a mixed sound consisting of short wheezes accompanied by crackles that are heard in the middle to the end of inspiration. This sound is caused by large airway narrowing and may indicate obstruction of the larynx or trachea. Of note, localized wheeze may be due to a focal process, including a tumor, foreign body, or mucous plug.ģ) Stridor is a particularly loud, high-pitched, continuous sound, more clearly heard on inspiration over the upper airways or sometimes even without a stethoscope. Expiratory wheeze is mostly caused by narrowing of the airways within the chest, which can occur in the setting of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, aspiration of gastric contents, or heart failure. Wheezes (hissing, whistling sounds) are produced by the turbulent flow of air through narrowed airways, while rhonchi are mainly caused by secretions present in the airways. In patients with upper airway obstruction, tracheal sounds may become musical and can present as either stridor or localized wheeze.ġ) Crackles are nonmusical, short (0.25 seconds), which may be high-pitched (wheezes) or low-pitched (rhonchi) and are generally audible during expiration. Pathologic tracheal or “bronchial” sounds are audible over peripheral lung areas and may suggest lung consolidation (due to inflammation, infection, hemorrhage, protein, or malignancy). Impaired transmission of sounds may be due to the presence of fluid or air in the pleural space, consolidated lung, large bullae in patients with emphysema, or by chest wall deformities or obesity.Ģ) Normal tracheal sounds are hollow nonmusical sounds with a wide spectrum of frequencies that are clearly heard at the suprasternal notch or the lateral neck in both respiratory cycles. Decrease in sound generation may be due to impaired respiratory drive or impaired flow of air to the peripheral airways (foreign body or obstructive airway diseases). In disease states, there may be diminished intensity due to decreased generation of sound energy, impaired sound transmission, or both. They are produced by turbulent air flow through lobar and segmental bronchi. Authors: Wojciech Szczeklik, Miłosz Jankowskiġ) Normal lung or “vesicular” sounds are soft, nonmusical, and audible over almost entire peripheral lung zones during inspiration and early expiration. Black stated that his intention was to do a "urban western" inspired by Dirty Harry where a violent character "reviled for what he did, what he is capable of, the things he believed in" is eventually recruited for being the one that could solve the problem. Recent UCLA graduate Shane Black wrote the screenplay in mid-1985. Riggs also gives Murtaugh a symbolic gift: an unfired hollow-point bullet which he had been saving to commit suicide, as he does not need it anymore. As officers arrive to take Joshua away, he breaks his bonds, but both Murtaugh and Riggs pull their guns on him to kill him.Īfter visiting his wife's grave, Riggs spends Christmas with the Murtaughs, having become close friends with Murtaugh and bonding with the rest of the family. They arrive in time to stop him, and Riggs overpowers him in a fist fight on the front lawn. Murtaugh and Riggs race to Murtaugh's home, knowing Joshua will be after his family. Joshua manages to get away, but McAllister ends up crashing his car on Hollywood Boulevard and is killed when a box of hand grenades in the car detonates. Their cover blown, McAllister and Joshua attempt to flee separately. Murtaugh and Riggs are tortured for information, but Riggs manages to overpower his captors, frees Murtaugh and Rianne, and escape to find themselves at a busy nightclub used as a front for Shadow Company. Murtaugh and Riggs plan an ambush at the exchange at El Mirage Lake with Riggs providing sniper support, but Riggs is caught by McAllister and all three are taken to an unknown location. Shadow Company later kidnaps Murtaugh's daughter Rianne and demand Murtaugh turn himself over to them for her return. Murtaugh and Riggs fake his death to gain the upper hand. Shadow Company attempts to kill Riggs in a drive-by shooting, but he was saved by a bullet-proof vest. As they talk, Joshua arrives in a helicopter and kills Hunsaker. Hunsaker had been laundering the money but wanted to get out, and when McAllister found out he contacted Murtaugh, he had Amanda killed. The two approach Hunsaker before Amanda's funeral, where he reveals that he had previously been part of "Shadow Company," a heroin-smuggling operation run by former special forces operators from the Vietnam War, masterminded by retired General Peter McAllister and his enigmatic right-hand man, Mr. Riggs finds parts of a mercury switch from bomb debris, indicating a professional had set the bomb children that had been nearby witnessed a man approach the house with a Special Forces tattoo similar to Riggs', and Murtaugh suspects Hunsaker knows more than he has let on. They go to see her at her home but it explodes as they approach it. Though the case seems closed, Riggs is worried that the only witness to Amanda's apparent suicide was Dixie, another prostitute who was working well outside her normal streets. Riggs kills the pimp and saves Murtaugh's life, who starts to gain respect for his new partner. Murtaugh and Riggs go to see Amanda's pimp, but find a drug lab on the premises, leading to a shootout. Hunsaker tells Murtaugh that he was worried about his daughter's involvement in drugs, prostitution, and hardcore pornography and was trying to get Murtaugh to help her escape that lifestyle. Autopsy reports show Amanda to have been poisoned with drain cleaner, making the case a possible homicide. Murtaugh is contacted by Michael Hunsaker, an old Vietnam War buddy turned banker, but before he can meet, Murtaugh learns that Hunsaker's daughter, Amanda, apparently committed suicide. Murtaugh and Riggs quickly find themselves at odds with each other. But there’s a tendency with rap to perform concert-style, directly addressing the audience rather than engaging with other people onstage. Williams, best known for the 1998 Sundance winner Slam, and Jackson, who starred on Broadway in the more upbeat, Latin-flavored rap musical In the Heights, are both charismatic presences whose contrasting intensities work well together. In one of the rare moments when there is an organic progression from one song to the next - the guys’ macho swaggering on “I Get Around” prompting the ladies’ proud response with “Keep Ya Head Up” - choreographer Wayne Cilento‘s staging has the kitschy, ‘90s-retro feel of a Fly Girls dance break from In Living Color. The music mostly just reiterates the same point about the need for change to end the violence. But while the frequent musical transitions from spoken word into melody can be energizing, particularly in ensemble numbers, there’s little plot momentum or character exploration. A street preacher ( John Earl Jelks) bears solemn witness to the struggle around him, but he remains a symbolic presence in a story that desperately needs flesh and blood characters.Ī buzz of recognition spreads through the audience when popular Tupac anthems begin - among them “Dear Mama,” “Whatz Next,” “California Love,” “Me Against the World,” “If I Die 2Nite,” “Thugz Mansion” and “Ghetto Gospel.” Themes of love, family, honor, identity and community are embedded in those lyrics. The soulful Sengbloh is every self-possessed girlfriend smart enough to move on rather than wait for her man to serve out his jail time. Tonya Pinkins is every African-American mother who ever grieved for a child lost to senseless gang violence. One of the key issues is that the actors, no matter how talented, have nothing but hackneyed outlines to play. PHOTOS Hollywood on Broadway: Denzel Washington, Daniel Craig and More Stars Onstage It doesn’t help us to distinguish Benny from the other interchangeable characters or feel his loss when it occurs a short way into the show. The fact that Benny was nurturing a dream to flee the ghetto and start a new life, opening an auto-shop in California with his mechanic pal Griffy ( Ben Thompson), is just one more tired narrative ingredient. That becomes difficult when innocent local kid Benny ( Donald Webber Jr.) catches a bullet intended for his older brother, drug-dealer Vertus ( Christopher Jackson), and the victim’s friends push for retaliation against the gang that shot him. But he remains emotionally locked away, keeping his buddies and his former girlfriend Corinne ( Saycon Sengbloh) at a distance. But what we get instead is a bland, black West Side Story with a lot of sermonizing about social ills and a rumble that never happens.ĭirector Kenny Leon, fresh from a Tony win for A Raisin in the Sun, introduces the brooding central figure of John ( Saul Williams) as he descends in an elevator cell and sheds his orange prison jumpsuit to return home after six years inside. The decision to set the show in an unnamed Midwestern industrial city and establish the time as now makes sense, aiming for universality while avoiding associations with the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop feud of the early ’90s. But Kreidler, whose main credentials come via his association with revered playwright August Wilson, borrows from countless urban-aggression screen dramas of the past two decades, bringing very little that feels vital or original to the table. The storytelling approach of stitching a narrative fabric around thematically related songs is similar to what Michael Mayer and Billie Joe Armstrong achieved so excitingly with Green Day’s American Idiot. That might have been rich fodder for a gritty musical in more skilled, less literal hands. But the enduring legacy of his politically charged lyrics is one of sorrow at the vicious cycle of violence bred out of entrenched racism, poverty and police profiling. During his lifetime, his divisive music was considered contradictory, often seeming to condemn the brutality of gangsta rap culture in one breath and celebrate its flashy excesses in the next. One of the most influential figures in hip-hop, Shakur’s stature has continued to grow in the 18 years since the rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting at age 25.
