![]() ![]() RELATED: What Is GitHub, and What Is It Used For?īy creating a GitHub repo, you bring these benefits to your project. This is especially important when multiple people from different time zones are contributing to one project. It’s also good for tracking who contributed to what and when. This version control makes it so that if something breaks, you can easily hunt down the source of the problem and revert back to a working version before the problematic code is pushed. Once a commit is made on a personal or shared branch in Looker, that branch and its history will appear in the GitHub UI.Git is an open-source distributed revision control system that allows multiple developers ( and writers!) to constantly and consecutively make and track changes to code or documentation in a centralized location without overriding someone else’s work. The simple solution described previously will preserve the history of all branches, but only the master branch and its history will be visible in the GitHub UI at first. Unless you deploy to production, your LookML code will appear only on your development branch in the new repository after you commit the code, or push it to remote (a Git command available in the Git Actions panel).Īdvanced solution: Cloning the repository Note: Your project LookML will not appear in the master branch of the new repository until you deploy your project to production. Once you have followed these steps, your project will be connected to the new repository. See the Setting up and testing a Git connection documentation page for full instructions on setting up Git. If you are using HTTPS, enter the login credentials for your Git repo.
